Circular Bio-Based Europe Joint Undertaking

CBE JU is a €2 billion partnership between the European Union and the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) that funds projects advancing competitive circular bio-based industries under Horizon Europe, the EU’s research and innovation programme. CBE JU is the legal and universal successor of BBI JU.

Unlocking the future of circular bioeconomy in Europe

CBE JU is building on BBI JU’s success while enlarging its scope and addressing the remaining challenges of Europe’s bio-based industries. The partnership is focusing on:

• Supporting research and innovation for sustainable bio-based solutions
• De-risking investments in innovative, circular bio-based production plants
• Addressing the technological, regulatory & market challenges of the bioeconomy
• Placing sustainability at the heart of its operations
• Strengthening the collaboration of all bioeconomy actors
• Engaging with more stakeholders along the value chains

Who can apply

All stakeholders of the bio-based industries ecosystem – farmers, consumer brands, companies, research organisations and local authorities, to name just a few – are invited to apply for CBE JU funding. CBE JU calls for project proposals are open to any legal entity, be it private or public, for-profit or not-for-profit organisation, including:

• Large companies
• Small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs)
• Research and technology organisations (RTOs)
• Universities
• Associations
